NEWS/UPDATES... |
06.18.10 - Updates completed on a number of sections, including those on FAQ's, and the BLOG.06.16.10 - Ever since it was announced in late 2008 that director Stephen Norrington together with Edward Pressman were planning on "rebooting" the franchise of "The Crow", there has been much speculation. The speculation was at once a feeling amongst fans of the original, that by the initial sounds of their proposal, was that the new project was actually a re-make of the original film, not a reboot of the franchise. Both Pressman and Norrington's comments were fiilled with ambiguity creating much misinformation. Later, after much press, even a few references to our very own petition (which was done after so many emails from concern fans), both Pressman and Norriington went on record to say that their proposed film would not involve any of the original characters from the film or the graphic novel, including "Eric Draven". There a sigh of relief, although fans were still unhappy given that a direct translation of the graphic novel had been sought by many for years. The reboot was just another excuse for yet another attempt to exploit the original film by making an inferior story with the subtitle of "The crow" attached to it (it seems two failed sequels was not enough for the makers to start listening to fans of the franchise). Earlier this week, Pressman went on record (according to Empire Online.com) to say that now it would be a story based around Eric Draven, the character not from the graphic novel but the original film. Now, even the most objective and open minded journalist who covered the piece were forced to convey the reality that the markers statement of the "new" film was sounding a lot like the "old" film. Unfortunately, some fans have been in denial since the several articles were published, yet the reality is that some Hollywood producers and their failing directors only wish to exploit a success model, even though if they bothered to listen to some of their so called fans, that they claim they make their films for, they might actually be able to gain some kind of audience who would pay to see their film. Many fans have not been just concerned that this will be an inferior re-make, but Brandon Lee admirers were even more concerned that much of Lee's creative and intellectual ideas and original input into the character (that inspired many lines of original dialogue as well as changes in the storyline and characters) would be also used, making it unethical in many respects. For many, The Crow is an emotional work of art, not just simply a dark and brooding adaption of a graphic novel. For some, the film became an epitaph for Brandon's own life and the dream that he had for his own life (not to mention the very poignant dedication at the end of the film "For Brandon and Eliza). It seems that 16 years of hindsight has done little to release any kind of empathy from the producers or respect for both Brandon and The Crow fans alike.04.12.10 - There has been significant absence of updates and for that I apologize. We experienced some technical issues as well as myself being pre-occupied with my work, throw moving to a new city into the mix and there is the reason why there has been such a lack of updates since last year.More updates have been completed on the following sites: Biography, Blog, Fact or Fiction, FAQ, Brandon and Eliza sections, Star, The Brandon Lee Movement and Links.I would like to take a moment to encourage our readers and indeed all fans of Brandon Lee to visit what BruceLee.Com has to offer. The site debuted last July and has gone from strength to strength since. The website is the official one of The Lee Estate and is maintained by Bruce Lee Enterprises, which is run by Brandon's sister, Shannon Lee. Shannon often posts blogs and vlogs where she has previously shared memories of Brandon, photos of the family and general information on how supporters of the Lee family can get in touch with all that is going down with the estate and its projects, including The Bruce Lee Action Museum, which will eventually be housed in Seattle, Washington. I saw some of the exhibits last November at the annual gala for the non-profit wing of the estate, The Bruce Lee Foundation and enjoyed what was on offer. Hopefully, there will be at some point more opportunities for Brandon Lee projects to be produced for Brandon 's own legacy to be celebrated along side of the projects on offer for Bruce Lee's memory. The 17th anniversary of Brandon's passing was recently and amongst the tributes and dedicates online, there was a general feeling that significant amount of time has now passed for more desire for projects to be done to benefit Brandon's legacy and memory. We recently heard from an informed source that Norrington and the film makers responsible for "The Crow: The New Beginning" have decided not to set the film around the original character of 'Eric Draven', which was largely originated for the film film, and which Brandon had a significant amount of input in. Thanks to all those who signed the petition. The fans eventually did and will have the final say.11.08.09 - More updates have been completed on the FAQ, Fact or Fiction pages.
